RFID/USN, Significant Trends in RFID and Wireless Sensor Networks, 2009-10-06, Songdo, Korea
RFID suffered at least in the U.S. and Europe from being overhyped, but then people have a natural tendency to overestimate a technology in the short term and underestimate it in the longterm. Much of the hype was done without the benefit of standards and those standards are now in development or finalized.
What remains are trends that may not always be warmly embraced, because these trends appear to be impediments to selling product. But ignoring these trends can be disastrous and embracing them provide new opportunities. Wireless technologies are being challenged in the Americas and Europe by issues of privacy, security, and concerns of health. Attend this session to understand what is happening in these areas and what is occurring to overcome the issues and the opportunities for industry leaders, like Korea to benefit.
RFID/USN, The State of Standards, 2009-10-06, Songdo, Korea (Original Presentation)
The only thing worse than not having a standard, is having a bunch of them.
Today, RFID standards are evolving out of JTC 1/SC 31, JTC 1/SC 6, NFC, EPCglobal, and ITU-T SG 16. In the world of sensors IEEE, JTC 1/SC 31, SGSN, and ITU-T SG 16 are developing standards, without the cooperative collaboration that should be present. This session's speaker is intimately involved in all of these efforts. Learn what each are doing and what prospect exists for common standards in RFID, Real Time Locating Systems, and Sensors.
