Calculate PDF417 Symbol Size

To use this Web page interactively, you must have Microsoft® Internet Explorer 4.01 or later and the Microsoft Office Web Components.  See the Microsoft Office Web site for more information.

First a word of caution: The exact size of a PDF417 symbol varies, not only by the type of data in the symbol, but also by the placement of the data. For example, if you have a data string "AAAA1111" the space that this data will use is different than the data string "A1A1A1A1". Therefore, the answers you get using this spreadsheet are only estimates and should be used as a guide to the overall size of the symbol.

Directions:
In the QTYBIN Row (B2): enter the amount of binary characters.
In the QTYNUM Row (B3): enter the amount of numeric characters.
In the QTYTEXT Row (B4): enter the amount of text characters.

In the ECC% Row (B8): enter the percent error correction or enter 0 to use ECC levels.
In the ECC# Row (B9): enter the ECC level if you have used 0 in the ECC% field.

In the XD Row (B12): enter the X-dimension in inches.
In the YD Row (B13): enter the Y-dimension in inches.

Leave the truncated row (B15) at 0.

Place your mouse on the B17 cell and left click to calculate the dimensions.

Finally, in the row labeled 20, click on any of the down arrows and select show all to see all the calculations. You may also filter the results if you wish.
